Moroccan authorities have officially denied reports claiming that a stadium steward died during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON) final between Morocco and Senegal at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
In a formal statement released on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) confirmed that no fatalities were recorded among private security personnel, ball boys, or any other individuals involved in the organization of the event. Security services further clarified that no legal procedures related to deaths from sports-related violence were initiated following the match.
To verify the facts, authorities conducted extensive checks with various health facilities, none of which reported any cases matching the rumors circulated on social media. The DGSN emphasized that the reports were entirely unfounded and that no incidents of this nature occurred during the high-profile final.
As a result of the false information being disseminated, the matter has been referred to the competent judicial authorities to open an investigation. The DGSN stated that the objective of this legal action is to identify those responsible for spreading the rumors and to hold them accountable under the law.
