Morocco reiterated its active and unwavering solidarity with Mali before the African Union
Peace and Security Council (AU PSC) on Tuesday, following the attacks of April 25 against several locations in the West African country.
Speaking at an AU PSC meeting dedicated to the situation in Mali, the Moroccan delegation condemned in the strongest possible terms the terrorist and separatist attacks targeting civilian and military areas in the country.
The delegation also expressed its compassion and sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the Malian people.
It reaffirmed Morocco’s full and unwavering solidarity with Mali, while reiterating its commitment to the sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity of the country.
Morocco also reiterated its support for the Malian national authorities in their efforts to combat terrorism and separatism, while emphasising the need for a strengthened and coordinated regional
approach, mobilizing relevant mechanisms and ensuring effective complementarity with national efforts.
The Moroccan delegation further called for the mobilisation of relevant funds to guarantee a rapid, appropriate, and situationally aligned response, in close coordination with the Malian authorities.
According to Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maiga, the coordinated terrorist attacks of April 25, perpetrated in several locations across the country, aimed to “seize power” and dismantle state institutions.
The attacks were claimed by the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), affiliated with Al-Qaeda, as well as by the Front for the Liberation of Azawad (FLA), the new name of the former CMA.
