Morocco has conducted a successful military exercise using the Israeli EXTRA guided rocket, a sign of its stated desire to strengthen its long-range strike capabilities.
According to the Israeli specialist website Nziv.net, the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) conducted a test launch in the eastern region of the country on Thursday, August 21.
The 306-millimeter projectile, equipped with a 120-kilogram warhead, reportedly hit its target with remarkable accuracy at a distance of 150 kilometers.
This test, considered a major technical milestone, highlights the Moroccan army’s growing mastery of high-precision firing systems. For the first time, the FAR also unveiled its PULS multiple launcher, acquired from the Israeli company Elbit Systems.
This equipment not only fires EXTRA rockets, but also Predator Hawk missiles, with a caliber of 370 millimeters and a range of up to 300 kilometers.
The introduction of these launchers gives Rabat greater strategic room for maneuver, both in terms of deterrence and power projection.
According to Nziv.net, this technological enhancement is part of an accelerated modernisation process, at a time when regional security balances remain fragile.
The contract between Rabat and Elbit Systems, estimated at $150 million (nearly 1.6 billion dirhams), is to be executed over three years. It illustrates Morocco’s desire to align itself with the most advanced international standards in the field of long-range artillery, while strengthening its vigilance on its eastern borders.
