The Moroccan government has presented its ambitious foreign trade roadmap for the period spanning 2025 to 2027, placing a strong emphasis on export promotion and the development of national products as central pillars of its economic growth strategy.
During a meeting held in Rabat on Tuesday, May 6th, and chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, the key elements of this strategic plan were outlined by Morocco’s Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Omar Hejira. Inspired by the overarching guidelines of King Mohammed VI, the roadmap sets three primary objectives: the creation of 76,000 new jobs, the annual integration of 400 new companies into the export market, and an ambitious target of generating an additional 84 billion dirhams (approximately €7.7 billion) in national export revenue by the year 2027.
In a statement released by the Head of Government’s office, Prime Minister Akhannouch reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to positioning foreign trade as a fundamental driver of economic development. He specifically underscored the critical need to provide robust support to Moroccan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their efforts to integrate into international markets. This support will include the provision of targeted assistance tools and the establishment of appropriate facilitation mechanisms designed to ease their entry into global trade.
The comprehensive 2025-2027 plan is structured around six key reform projects. These include accelerating the digitalization of foreign trade procedures to streamline processes and reduce bureaucratic hurdles, establishing specialized regional offices dedicated to supporting this digital transition at the local level, and placing increased emphasis on actively promoting exports from the crafts sector and the social and solidarity economy – two sectors identified as holding significant untapped potential in international markets.
This strategic initiative comes at a time when Morocco is increasingly focused on strengthening its economic sovereignty while simultaneously deepening its integration into global value chains. By strategically aiming to diversify its trading partners and enhance the quality and competitiveness of its products, Rabat seeks to effectively combine local entrepreneurial dynamism with the demands of global competitiveness.
