Morocco’s General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) has launched a review of its stadium security systems in order to strengthen the prevention of violence linked to sporting events and to prepare for major competitions the kingdom is set to host in the coming months.
According to media reports, Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of the DGSN and the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), chaired a working meeting on Wednesday at the DGSN headquarters in Rabat dedicated to assessing security protocols applied during sporting events.
The meeting brought together several senior officials responsible for public security, judicial police, general intelligence and sports security. It is part of a broader series of consultations with regional security officials aimed at harmonising security arrangements across the country.
According to the same sources, participants reviewed operations conducted during major sporting events recently held in Morocco.
Discussions focused on the effectiveness of crowd control measures inside stadiums and lessons learned from matches that required significant security deployment.
The meeting also examined new measures aimed at strengthening the protection of sports infrastructure and improving coordination between public authorities, event organisers and sports clubs.
The objective is to establish an integrated security framework aligned with international competition standards.
Hammouchi instructed public order units to adapt security plans to the specific nature of each sporting event and to the risks identified.
This approach includes, when necessary, the deployment of specialised units and dedicated intervention forces.
He also emphasised the increased integration of new technologies into stadium security systems, including the use of video surveillance systems and remotely piloted aircraft to monitor crowd movements and detect early signs of disorder.
The strategy also relies on enhanced coordination between operational field units and structures responsible for intelligence gathering and analysis.
The DGSN aims to build on experience gained in securing major sporting competitions hosted by Morocco to strengthen its capacity to anticipate and manage high-attendance events.
The initiative comes as the kingdom prepares to host several continental sporting events in the coming months, with authorities seeking to prevent stadium violence and ensure competitions are held in line with international security standards.
