A total turnover of 2.057 billion shares worth N51.015 billion in 65,016deals was traded this three-day trading week by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange.
The market opened for three trading days this week as the Federal Government of Nigeria declared Monday June 9 and Thursday June 12, 2025 as Public Holidays to commemorate 2025 Eid-el-Kabir and Democracy Day celebrations.
The weekly report of transactions released on Friday in Lagos showed that the figures were in contrast to a total of 3.214 billion shares valued at N76.348 billion that exchanged hands last week in 64,156 deals.
According to the report, the Financial Services Industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 1.060 billion shares valued at N26.371 billion traded in 27,201 deals, while the Services Industry followed with 490.276 million shares worth N1.586 billion in 3,865 deals.
The Third place was the Consumer Goods Industry, with a turnover of 122.795 million shares worth N5.841 billion in 7,638 deals.
Trading in the top three equities namely Tantalizer Plc, Access Holdings Plc and Zenith Bank Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 693.553 million shares worth N9.957 billion in 7,661 deals, contributing 33.72% and 19.52% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
A total of 24,880 units valued at N8.881 million were traded this week in 92 deals compared with a total of 46,729 units valued at N8.391 million transacted last week in 89 deals
In the Bonds section, a total of 38,597 units valued at N37.536 million were traded this week in 20 deals compared with a total of 17,023 units valued at N12.505 million transacted last week in 27 deals.
The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalization appreciated by 0.71% to close the week at 115,429.54 and N 72.788 trillion respectively.
Similarly, all other indices finished higher with the exception of NGX Insurance, NGX AFR Div Yield, NGX MERI Value, NGX Oil & Gas and NGX Commodity Indices, which depreciated by 0.11%, 0.61%, 0.81%, 1.22% and 1.41% respectively, while the NGX AseM and NGX Banking indices closed flat. ($1=N1548)
