The official ball for the 2026 World Cup, named Trionda, was unveiled in New York, celebrating the three host nations with notable technical innovations.
On Thursday, October 2, 2025, Adidas revealed Trionda, the official match ball for the 2026 World Cup, set to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19, 2026. According to FIFA, Trionda—which translates to “three waves” in Spanish—features a distinctive design combining red, green, and blue, paying tribute to the tournament’s three host countries.
“The ball showcases a four-panel wave pattern symbolising unity among the three nations,” FIFA explained. Each country is represented by a unique emblem: a maple leaf for Canada, an eagle for Mexico, and a star for the United States.
From a technical standpoint, Trionda incorporates deep seams for improved flight stability and embossed icons for enhanced grip, particularly in wet conditions. An integrated chip, known as an inertial measurement unit sensor, will transmit real-time data to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system to enhance accurance in making decisions, especially for offside calls.
“The data is sent 500 times per second, allowing constant tracking of the ball,” added Hannes Schaefke, Head of Innovation at Adidas.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino commented, “The official ball of the 2026 World Cup is here, and it’s stunning. It represents the unity and passion of the three countries hosting the tournament.”
This first-ever World Cup hosted across three nations, expanded to 48 teams, will feature 12 groups of four teams and an additional knockout round, the Round of 16.
The group stage draw will take place on December 5, 2025, in Washington, with 42 teams already qualified, including Argentina, Brazil, Morocco, and Tunisia.
