Senegal’s national oil company, PETROSEN, issued a formal denial on Monday night, May 11, 2026, regarding reports of an imminent shortage of gas, petrol, and diesel.
The management characterized circulating claims of supply disruptions as entirely unfounded, clarifying that a fraudulent press release had been distributed across social media and messaging platforms to mislead the public. PETROSEN unequivocally dismissed these reports, emphasizing that such misinformation is designed to create unnecessary doubt and confusion within the national market.
The company assured citizens that no disruptions to the national supply of petroleum or gas products have been recorded. According to the official statement, Senegal’s infrastructure for the importation, storage, and distribution of fuel continues to operate at normal capacity through close coordination between the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines and various industry stakeholders. The distribution network remains stable, and the company confirmed that all logistical systems are functioning as intended to meet domestic demand.
In response to the spread of the viral hoax, PETROSEN urged the public to exercise vigilance and rely strictly on official government communication channels for accurate information. The management further announced that it reserves the right to pursue legal action against the individuals responsible for creating and disseminating this false information, noting that such actions constitute a disturbance of public order. The state remains committed to maintaining transparency and protecting the integrity of its strategic energy reserves.
