President Adama Barrow has appointed Joseph Colley as the new head of the Independent Electoral Commission to replace Alieu Momar Njai who went into statutory retirement earlier this year.
The appointment of Mr Colley who was Njai’s deputy came into effect on June 20.
The Gambian leader also used the power vested in him by the 1997 constitution to appoint Mr Cherno M Jallow as Colley’s deputy, which will last seven years.
Mr Colley’s term as head of the IEC ends on 3rd March 2028.
The appointments come as Gambia inches closer to next year’s presidential election with President Barrow bidding for a third term.
