Senegal marked a significant milestone in international space diplomacy on September 3, 2026, following the official launch of the new scientific publication Deep Space Exploration at the 2026 International Deep Space Exploration Conference in Hefei, China.
Among the 60 global experts appointed to the journal’s inaugural editorial board by the International Deep Space Exploration Association is Maram Kairé, Director-General of the Senegalese Space Studies Agency. Taking on the role of Associate Editor, Kairé joins prominent researchers and institutional leaders from China, the United States, France, South Africa, and several other nations, alongside senior editorial leadership under Wu Weiren and Chen Jie.
The appointment underscores a broader strategic shift for African nations within the global aerospace community, transitioning from passive consumers of foreign technology to active contributors to scientific knowledge, innovation, and interplanetary exploration. Representing top academic and governmental bodies such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Deep Space Exploration Laboratory, the international board provides a prominent platform for Senegalese leadership.
