A spate of crime is sweeping mainly through the suburbs of Kampala with residents being attacked by violent robberies and coordinated gangsters while en route home and in residence, witnesses told APA.
Some suspects have been captured and circulated on social media and residents across several countryside locations expressed fear over the escalating crimes as confidence in the security response is waning.
The wave of crime came a month after the national and local council elections held between January 15 and February 6.
Witnesses said the victims are either strangled or hit on the head with sharp objects until they die.
Police in Entebbe Municipality on Tuesday arrested 20 young people suspected of belonging to criminal gangs linked to a string of aggravated robberies in Entebbe and Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted on Monday night in Kawafu Zone, Abaita Ababiri, Katabi Town Council, after a series of violent attacks targeting residents.
During the operation, security operatives apprehended several suspects, including Mr Grace Nabeeta, also known as FBI or Escobar, who police describe as a key suspect. Others arrested are Fred Agaba alias Cuti, Godfrey Kayongo alias Musilamu, Alex Lubega, and Sendekera Wandera.
Police have since identified several crime hotspots where suspected gangs allegedly operate at night. These include Kawafu, Kirala and Kaabona in Katabi Town Council, and Kitooro and Kiwafu in Entebbe municipality.
The latest operation stems from an incident that occurred on February 12, 2026, when Mr Richard Batabane, a resident of Kawafu Zone in Abaita Ababiri, was reportedly attacked and robbed.
