Nine people have been confirmed killed following a horror road crash in the Tanzanian town of Lugono Melala in the early hours of Thursday.
A bus plying the Morogoro–Iringa highway ploughed into a lorry laden with a consignment of sugar which was speeding from the opposite direction.
44 other were injured, some seriously and have been transported to the Morogoro Regional Referral Hospital.
The chief medical officer at the hospital Dr Daniel Nkungu confirmed that five men and four women were identified as the deceased while seven of the injured were children.
Thursday’s gruesome accident is the latest in a series of fatal road accidents in Tanzania.
Just days ago 27 people were killed instantly when three vehicles rammed into each other in a road in Mbeya Region.
Another victim died later in the Mbalizi township hospital.
