Dogta-Lafiè Hospital in Lomé has achieved a major breakthrough in the fight against prostate cancer, becoming the first institution in Africa to be equipped with Focal One, a cutting-edge French robotic device.
Focal One offers a revolutionary, non-invasive method for treating prostate cancer. Developed in France, this technology uses high-intensity focused ultrasound to destroy cancer cells without the need for surgery or traditional radiotherapy.
This approach is noted for significantly limiting side effects and dramatically reducing patient recovery time.
The acquisition of the Focal One system is part of Dogta-Lafiè Hospital’s goal to become a regional hub for precision medicine, strengthening the treatment of chronic diseases and cancers across Togo and West Africa.
In parallel with this launch, the hospital also inaugurated a modern maternity center featuring connected obstetrical units and a specialized neonatal monitoring service. Furthermore, in support of the Pink October campaign, the hospital established an early breast cancer screening center equipped with 3D mammography and digital imaging.
These initiatives align with the Togolese government’s national policy of universal medical assistance, aimed at improving equitable access to high-quality care. With its state-of-the-art equipment and specialized services, Dogta-Lafiè Hospital is cementing its status as one of the leading referral hospitals in West Africa.
