The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a firm condemnation of the intensifying military conflict between Israel and Iran, warning that the current cycle of violence threatens to ignite a broader regional conflagration.
In a statement released on Saturday, Tripoli expressed its categorical rejection of Israeli military strikes against Iranian territory, emphasizing that such actions compromise the fragile security and stability of the entire Middle East.
Beyond the initial strikes, Libyan officials also denounced Iranian retaliatory attacks, specifically characterizing them as violations of the sovereignty of several Arab nations. The Ministry pointed to strikes affecting Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Syria as breaches of international law and the principles of good neighborliness. Tripoli underscored that infringing upon the territorial integrity of third-party states only serves to undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts and risks expanding the conflict far beyond the original protagonists.
In light of these “unpredictable consequences,” Libyan authorities have urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and immediately cease military operations. The communique stressed that the only path to safeguarding international peace is a return to constructive dialogue and a prioritize political solutions over military reprisals.
Tripoli concluded its address by reaffirming its adherence to the United Nations Charter, insisting that a lasting deterioration of the regional situation can only be prevented through a commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes.
