Tunisian authorities have confirmed that Eid al-Adha 2026 will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, following a process combining lunar crescent observation and astronomical calculations.
This clarification of the calendar comes at a time when economic operators are paying particular attention to festive periods, which often mean increased household spending and the reorganization of supply chains.
The newfound visibility for businesses allows various sectors in Tunisia to adjust their short-term operational forecasts.
Retailers, food distributors, and livestock market players now have a stable calendar for organising supplies, managing inventory, and adapting distribution capacities. The days leading up to Eid are
expected to see a significant increase in demand, driven by food purchases, expenses related to the sacrifice, and household needs for everyday consumer goods.
This seasonal dynamic is also expected to put significant pressure on transportation networks. The fact that the holiday falls in the middle of the administrative week could encourage longer family trips and returns to home regions. Public and private operators are already anticipating a rise in intercity traffic starting at the beginning of the week before Eid.
The National Intercity Transport Company (SNTRI) and the Tunisian National Railway Company (SNCFT) are expected by the sector to increase service frequencies and adjust schedules to accommodate the influx of travelers.
This period traditionally represents one of the annual peaks in domestic travel in Tunisia, placing heavy strain on road and rail infrastructure.
At the same time, industrial companies, banks, and government agencies will need to adapt their internal organisation to ensure the continuity of essential services. The energy, telecommunications,
healthcare, and public services sectors are among those most vulnerable to maintaining operations during the Eid holidays.
Tunisian exporters are also closely monitoring this period. Companies integrated into European value chains could face temporary logistical slowdowns at the end of May, particularly in transportation, handling, and administrative processes.
Several operators are therefore looking to bring forward some shipments to mitigate potential delivery delays.
