A mob in Uganda’s Ntunda Town Council, Kyankwanzi District, has killed a self-confessed killer accused of murdering a couple, police said Wednesday in a statement.
The suspect, identified as Amon Senkula was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the killing of Sentongo Awali and his wife, Doreecen Ayebare, whose bodies were found on February 14, 2026.
According to police, Senkula confessed to the crime and on Wednesday afternoon at about 3pm led detectives to a forest in Bakulimya Village, Ndairinga Ward, where he had allegedly hidden the weapon used in the murders.
However, as officers led by the District Police Commander (DPC) attempted to recover the exhibit, a mob from Ntunda Town Council and neighbouring areas descended on the scene, overpowering the security team.
Armed with sticks, stones, clubs and other crude weapons, the mob attacked the suspect and killed him on the spot before fleeing, police said.
In an earlier police statement following his arrest, authorities said Senkula had been wanted in connection with multiple serious crimes, including murder, attempted murder and kidnapping.
“The suspect has been wanted on multiple criminal files, including murder of Wali Ssentongo and his wife, attempted murder of Kamada Karume and kidnap of Esther Kamwine, all committed in the year 2026, police said in the statement.
The Wamala Region police spokesperson, Lameck Kegozi, condemned the lynching, describing it as unlawful and a major set-back to the course of justice.
