The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) will kick off a nationwide voter registration exercise on 13 October, targeting 3.5 million new voters ahead of the 2026 general elections.
ECZ chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis said the registration drive would run until 11 November across all 156 constituencies.
Zaloumis said the exercise would accommodate new registrations, card replacements and voter transfers.
He announced that citizens who registered in 2020 or during the continuous registration process remain eligible and do not need to re-register.
Online pre-registration is set to open on 15 September to ease congestion during the physical registration period.
The 2026 elections are expected to be a pivotal moment in Zambia’s democratic trajectory, with increased youth participation and electoral reforms shaping the political landscape.
Following the registration window, ECZ would compile a provisional voters’ roll and handle objections and appeals between December 2025 and February 2026.
