Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema has dismissed Health Minister Elijah Muchimba and Small and Medium Enterprise Development Minister Elias Mubanga.
Presidential spokesperson Clayson Hamasaka said in a brief statement late Wednesday that the president had thanked the two ministers for their service and would name their replacements “in due course.”
No reasons were given for the dismissals.
Muchimba, who was appointed in 2023, had overseen the government’s efforts to strengthen the health sector amid challenges of drug shortages and strained hospital infrastructure.
Mubanga, also appointed in 2023, was tasked with spearheading policies to support small businesses and entrepreneurship, a key plank of Hichilema’s economic agenda.
