Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with Libyan National Army (LNA) Commander-in-Chief Khalifa Haftar in Cairo on Monday, December 8, 2025, to hold discussions focusing on the situations in both Libya and Sudan.
The two leaders emphasized the critical need to intensify international and regional efforts to find a political solution in Sudan that preserves the country’s stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. They stressed that “Sudan’s stability is closely linked to the national security of Egypt and Libya.” This meeting is part of ongoing consultations Egypt holds with officials from the border region, amid tensions around the “border triangle” southwest of the country.
Regarding Libya, President al-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s full support for Libya’s sovereignty, stability, unity, and territorial integrity, praising the role of the Libyan army command in these efforts.
During the meeting, which included high-ranking military and intelligence officials from both sides, Al-Sisi stressed the necessity of countering all foreign interference and ensuring the expulsion of foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory.
Al-Sisi further pledged Egypt’s commitment to providing all necessary support to the Libyan army and national institutions. He affirmed Egypt’s backing for initiatives aimed at resolving the Libyan crisis and successfully holding presidential and parliamentary elections.
Haftar, in turn, commended the central role played by Egypt and President al-Sisi in helping to restore security and stability in Libya, expressing a desire for continued consultations on regional developments.
