A plane carrying two Algerian Civil Protection officers crashed on Tuesday in Jijel province, eastern Algeria, resulting in the deaths of all four occupants.
According to a statement posted on Facebook by the Civil Protection, the victims include Lieutenant Colonel Berdji Redouane, commander of the Civil Protection Air Group, Captain Ghalay Souhaib, a trainee pilot, and two foreign nationals: a Colombian national and a Chilean instructor. The Chilean instructor was identified as a manager with Air Tractor, while the director of the training school also perished in the accident. Algerian authorities have not yet released the names of the latter two victims.
The Civil Protection statement indicated that the “serious air accident occurred in the province of Jijel, at Ferhat Abbas Airport, killing its four occupants engaged in an air training and development mission.”
The aircraft involved in the crash was identified as a Firnas-142, believed to be a reconnaissance aircraft manufactured by the Czech company Zlin. The Civil Protection extended its condolences to the families of the deceased officers.
