The Burkinabe government has urged the African Development Bank (AfDB) to increase its support for productive and structuring investments.
It suggested that this intervention should particularly be within the framework of the 2026-2030 National Development Plan (NDP), the Ministry of Economy and Finance announced on Thursday.
This request was made by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Aboubakar Nacanabo, during a meeting with an AfDB delegation led by Lamin Barrow.
According to the Ministry, this mission is part of the finalisation of the Interim Country Strategy Paper (ICSP) 2022-2025, extended until 2026, as well as preparatory consultations for the future cooperation framework between Burkina Faso and the financial institution.
The joint evaluation aims to review the projects financed over the past five years, draw lessons learned, and define new partnership priorities.
The minister welcomed the “new momentum” initiated by the AfDB leadership, while calling for a refocusing of interventions on productive investments, in line with Pillar 4 of the National
Development Plan (NDP), entitled “Recovery Plan.”
This pillar emphasises infrastructure development and the structural transformation of the economy, with the objectives of accelerating industrialisation, strengthening energy production, and improving the competitiveness of the private sector. It also includes the modernisation of transport, communication, and storage infrastructure.
Aboubakar Nacanabo further stressed the need to streamline and expedite the Bank’s procedures to improve the efficiency of project implementation.
Lamin Barrow indicated that this mission aimed to gather guidance from the Burkinabe authorities with a view to strengthening cooperation between the AfDB and Burkina Faso.
