As part of the ongoing Operation Mirador, the Beninese Armed Forces (FAB) conducted a successful series of free medical consultations in Kountori, located in the country’s northwest.
Following a previous phase in Porga, this initiative aims to bridge the gap between the military and local populations while addressing urgent healthcare needs in underserved regions.
During the first day of the outreach, approximately 550 patients received treatment at the Kountori local health center. Military doctors worked alongside civilian medical staff to provide essential care and distribute medication in an area where access to healthcare services remains chronically limited. The operation was led by Lieutenant-Colonel Tassou Abdou Wassiou and Medical Lieutenant Avlessi Mardochée, who coordinated a team of roughly thirty military health professionals supported by civilian agents.
Beyond its humanitarian impact, the mission serves a strategic purpose: strengthening the bond of trust between the army and local communities in a region facing significant security challenges. According to military authorities, these civil-military actions (CIMIC) are a critical component of Benin’s broader strategy to stabilize northern territories and counter the spread of violent extremism. The Kountori phase, which concluded on March 27, 2026, exemplifies the multifaceted approach of Operation Mirador—combining a visible security presence with social assistance to foster long-term peace and community resilience.
