Botswana and Turkey are expected to sign a visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic and official passports during an official visit by the southern African country’s International Relations Minister Phenyo Butale.
Butale arrived in Ankara on Monday for a four-day visit at the invitation of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
The two ministers are scheduled to hold bilateral talks focused on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment and multilateral engagement.
According to Botswana’s Ministry of International Relations, the visit will culminate in the signing of an Agreement on Visa Waiver for Holders of Diplomatic, Official, Service and Special Passports, marking a significant step in facilitating high-level exchanges between the two countries.
While in Turkey, Butale will also meet with members of the Turkey–Botswana Business Council and conduct site visits, including to ASELSAN, a leading Turkish defence electronics firm specialising in avionics, radar and satellite technologies.
The minister is expected to pay tribute at Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Turkey, by signing the official Memorial Book.
Botswana and Turkey established diplomatic relations in 1981 and maintain cordial ties across various sectors, including human resource development and economic cooperation.
Butale is accompanied by Minerals and Energy Minister Bogolo Joy Kenewendo and senior government officials.
