The World Bank Vice President for West and Central Africa, Ousmane Diagana, arrived in Senegal on August 4 for a five-day official visit aimed at strengthening strategic alignment with the government’s Senegal Vision 2050 development agenda.
The delegation is conducting high-level talks with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the prime minister, and key cabinet ministers across the energy, agriculture, and education sectors to refine operational coordination among World Bank Group entities, including the International Development Association (IDA), International Finance Corporation (IFC), and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
Discussions center on evaluating major flagship initiatives supported by the bank, including the Mission 300 electricity access project, the AgriConnect agricultural transformation initiative, and the Water Forward sanitation program. The delegation is also reviewing broader portfolio priorities aimed at strengthening community resilience, modernizing rural transport infrastructure, expanding universal health coverage, and fostering a favorable environment for private sector investment and job creation. The visit comes as the World Bank manages a robust national portfolio comprising 27 IDA-financed investment projects valued at $4.2 billion, alongside $658 million in IFC commitments and $1.005 billion in MIGA guarantees.
