On the occasion of Burkina Faso’s 66th Independence Day anniversary, President Ibrahim Traoré urged citizens on Wednesday to embrace the ideals of the Popular Progressive Revolution (RPP), describing it as the primary compass guiding the nation toward complete sovereignty and self-reliant development.
In a national address, the head of state reflected on the country’s independence on August 5, 1960, asserting that its founding aspirations were long undermined by persistent schemes of foreign domination and resource exploitation.
Captain Traoré stated that Burkina Faso remains actively engaged in a broader war of liberation aimed at securing full territorial control while achieving total political, economic, and military autonomy. Paying tribute to historical leaders who fought against neocolonialism as well as defense forces currently battling armed groups, he commended their dedication to protecting national integrity. He concluded by calling on all Burkinabe citizens to actively build a truly free, dignified, and independent nation, emphasizing that the principles of the Popular Progressive Revolution serve as the bedrock for a strong and prosperous future.
