The Burkinabe government has approved several key projects proposed by the Ministry of Security worth a total of 5.737 billion CFA francs, including tax, during Thursday’s Council of Ministers.
The funding, drawn entirely from the 2026 state budget, is explicitly intended to strengthen the operational capacity of forces currently engaged in the ongoing fight against regional insecurity. According to the official report adopted by the Council of Ministers, the allocated funds will be utilized to procure specialized equipment for the benefit of both the national armed forces and internal security units deployed across the country. As part of this distribution, a portion of the equipment will be assigned to specialized units operating under the National Office for the Securing of Mining Sites (ONASSIM).
The comprehensive program also provides for the immediate reinforcement of the operational capacity of the National Road Safety Office (ONASER) through the acquisition of new equipment aimed at improving regional prevention and traffic enforcement activities. Furthermore, authorities have planned the purchase of uniforms and security equipment for trainees at the National Police School and the Police Academy, as well as for the personnel of the General Directorate of the National Police. Protective clothing will also be acquired for agents of the General Directorate of Water and Forests alongside personnel of the LAABAL Brigade. With a total precise cost of 5,737,665,660 CFA francs including taxes, these initiatives reflect the government’s determination to strengthen the logistical and operational capabilities of its defense and security forces to better respond to the country’s security challenges.
