Burkina Faso is preparing for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly with a delegation led by Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo.
The team, which includes ministers, experts, and representatives from youth and civil society, is heading to New York to present the nation’s vision on the world stage.
On Monday, September 15, Burkinabe Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean Marie Traoré met with UN staff in Burkina Faso to ensure the delegation’s participation is as effective as possible. Minister Traoré stated that the delegation is “fully prepared to carry the voice of Burkina Faso and explain the vision of its top officials.”
The UN’s Acting Resident Coordinator, Maurice Azonnankpo, praised the collaboration, calling it a demonstration of the government’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with the UN. He also noted that the assembly will provide a crucial opportunity for Burkina Faso to project a positive image globally, despite its ongoing security challenges.
“It is about showing the world that despite the security challenge, Burkina Faso remains a land of hospitality, opportunity, and investment,” Azonnankpo said.
The 80th UN General Assembly will be held from September 23 to 29, 2025, under the theme: “Better Together: Over 80 Years of Peace, Development and Human Rights.”
