The National Police of Burkina Faso have arrested 14 members of an organized armed robbery syndicate operating across domestic commercial centers and neighboring regional territories, authorities announced in Ouagadougou.
Comprising predominantly repeat offenders, the criminal network systematically targeted private enterprises, mobile money kiosks, gold merchants, processing foundries, and service stations across major Burkinabe urban hubs—including Ouagadougou, Pouytenga, Houndé, Dano, Gaoua, and Diébougou—as well as Doropo and Bouaké in neighboring Côte d’Ivoire.
Investigative disclosures reveal that the syndicate operated using tactical two-person motorcycle teams, employing a dual strategy where rifle-bearing operatives secured perimeter coverage while accomplices executed robberies using bladed weapons and warning shots to intimidate bystanders. Following targeted operations enabled by community intelligence, law enforcement officers recovered an arsenal comprising two pump-action shotguns, a hunting rifle, four semi-automatic pistols, ammunition magazines, an array of bladed weapons, motor vehicles, and stolen consumer electronics. Urging the public to maintain vigilance via dedicated emergency hotlines, the National Police advised commercial operators to minimize cash holdings on business premises to mitigate exposure to organized crime.
