The Burkinabè government has officially called upon the African Development Bank (AfDB) to increase its support for structural investments as part of the country’s National Development Plan (PND) for 2026–2030.
During a high-level meeting in Ouagadougou on Friday, May 8, 2026, Economy and Finance Minister Aboubakar Nacanabo urged an AfDB delegation led by Lamin Barrow to align future funding with the nation’s “Recovery Plan.” This strategic shift prioritizes Pillar 4 of the PND, which centers on accelerating industrialization, expanding energy production, and modernizing the country’s transport and storage infrastructure to enhance private sector competitiveness.
The discussions were held as part of a joint evaluation of the interim partnership framework, allowing both parties to assess the performance of projects financed over the last five years and identify emerging cooperation priorities. Minister Nacanabo specifically advocated for the AfDB to adopt faster and more flexible administrative procedures to ensure that large-scale development projects are implemented with greater efficiency. In response, Lamin Barrow emphasized that the AfDB’s current mission is focused on integrating the Burkinabè government’s strategic orientations into a new partnership framework, signaling a commitment to supporting the sustainable transformation of the national economy.
