Egypt has strongly condemned Iranian attacks launched on Sunday against Kuwait and Bahrain, according to a statement from the foreign affairs ministry.
Denouncing the Iranian strikes, Egypt stated that “these aggressions constitute a flagrant violation of their sovereignty, a threat to their security and stability, and a dangerous escalation that undermines efforts to establish a lasting de-escalation and reduce regional tensions.”
Cairo further reaffirmed its full solidarity with both Kuwait and Bahrain, pledging complete support for any measures they deem necessary to safeguard their security and stability.
The Egyptian foreign ministry underscored the importance of “staying the course of negotiations, supporting genuine efforts to defuse tensions, and prioritising dialogue and peaceful means to resolve disputes, with the ultimate goal of bolstering regional security and stability.”
On Saturday, June 27, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks with his Qatari and Saudi counterparts.
According to the ministry’s statement, Abdelatty and Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani exchanged views on the progress of ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran.
Both officials stressed the importance of capitalising on the momentum of the current talks following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran. They emphasised the need to follow through on agreed commitments to foster de-escalation, strengthen regional security, and guarantee freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law.
Additionally, the two ministers reviewed the situation in Lebanon, welcoming the U.S.-brokered framework agreement. They insisted on the necessity of building upon this agreement to ensure its full implementation, reinforce Lebanon’s security, stability, and sovereignty, and support its national institutions. They also reiterated the importance of a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory and an end to Israeli attacks.
Abdelatty also spoke by phone with Saudi foreign minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. The two diplomats emphasised that the security of the Gulf states is an integral part of Arab national security.
They stressed the critical need to ensure freedom of navigation under international law and to refrain from unilateral actions that could disrupt international maritime traffic or global trade.
