Six Cameroonian children abducted by kidnappers were rescued in Chad during a military operation conducted by Chadian defense and security forces.
According to the statement released on Tuesday, July 15, the rescue operation was carried at night on July 12 and 13, 2025 in the Larmanaye area, near the border with Cameroon.
It added that after several days of anxiety, the children were located and safely recued.
The statement disclosed that during the operation, Chadian forces neutralized the suspected kidnappers and brought an end to their captivity.
Presenting the children to journalists, Idriss Souleymane Bouyemé,
Prefect of the Monts de Lam Department, disclosed that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of 30 million CFA francs for their release.
He emphasized that the successful operation was the result of close cooperation between the local authorities, security forces, and the population, who provided crucial intelligence.
“This operation demonstrates the strong commitment of the Chadian authorities under the leadership of Marshal Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, to guarantee citizens’ security and combat cross-border crime,” stated the prefect.
He praised the professionalism and determination of the security forces involved as well as the exemplary mobilization of the local population.
The authorities have announced the opening of investigations to identify and dismantle the networks behind these ransom kidnappings.
This form of criminal activity remains prevalent in the border regions of Mayo-Kebbi West and Logone Oriental, adjacent to Cameroon.
