Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno met his Nigerian counterpart Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Thursday.
Although details of the discussions had not been made public at the time of going to press, sources said the two leaders spoke about security cooperation and the strengthening of economic ties between the two countries.
On the security front, Chad and Nigeria share concerns linked to stability in the Lake Chad Basin, which has faced threats from armed groups such as Boko Haram for several years.
The two states already collaborate within the Multinational Joint Task Force and this meeting could enhance military coordination, intelligence sharing and joint operations to secure borders and protect civilian populations.
Economically, Nigeria serves as a strategic gateway for imported goods destined for Chad.
Talks are also said to have focused on addressing trade facilitation, the improvement of transport and transit infrastructure, the reduction of customs barriers and the development of joint projects in energy, agriculture and cross-border trade, with the aim of boosting both economies and deepening regional integration.
