Chad’s opposition parliamentary group, “Les Démocrates Élus,” has formally denounced public media outlets for the systematic censorship of its activities and statements, threatening to boycott Senate proceedings in protest.
In a letter to the Senate President, the opposition, led by interim group leader Sébastien Mbaigolmem, accused state-run media of routinely omitting their speeches, withholding their images, and ignoring their votes, while providing extensive coverage to the ruling majority. The group argues that this practice is a “blatant violation of the Chadian people’s right to information” and undermines the opposition’s constitutional role as a democratic counterweight.
Decrying the “unacceptable media marginalization,” Les Démocrates Élus warned that their senators would suspend participation in both Senate and Congress sessions unless urgent action is taken to ensure fair and balanced coverage. The group stressed that the “credibility of Parliament” depends on respecting pluralism and guaranteeing the opposition’s full participation in public life. They called on Senate President Haroun Kabadi to swiftly correct the situation.
