The Chadian government has announced the resignation of the Minister of State for Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Vocational Training, Dr. Tom Erdimi.
The information was made public in an official statement signed on March 5, 2026, by Prime
Minister Allah-Maye Halina.
According to this statement to APA, the minister’s decision was finalised during the night, around 2:00 a.m.
Having served in his post since 2022, Dr. Tom Erdimi chose to leave his position, marking the second resignation of a sitting minister since President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno came to power in April 2021.
In a statement published on the social media accounts of the General Secretariat of the Government, the PM indicated that he had taken note of this decision, while commending the outgoing minister’s contribution to government action and his service to the nation.
In accordance with institutional procedures, the letter of resignation has been forwarded to the Chadian president for further action.
To ensure the continuity of public service, the interim head of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Vocational Training will be the Secretary of State for the department.
A former rebel leader and opponent of the late President Idriss Déby Itno, Dr. Tom Erdimi was appointed Minister of Higher Education in October 2022, following the Doha Agreements signed between the transitional government and the politico-military groups.
He was subsequently retained in the governments led successively by Succès Masra and then Allah-Maye Halina.
His tenure at the ministry was marked by several major academic reforms, notably the digitisation of registration procedures at the University of N’Djamena, the reorganisation of the academic calendar,
and the creation of new universities and university institutes.
In several polls published by local media, Dr. Tom Erdimi was among the highest-rated ministers in the government.
