The Ivorian Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of First Instance of Abobo has announced the indictment and
detention of 18 people following violent intercommunal clashes that occurred earlier this month in the southern district Alepe.
The events took place on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, in Kossandji, a locality in the sub-prefecture of Danguira. A conflict between members of different communities residing in the area tragically escalated into violent clashes.
According to the official statement from the Public Prosecutor, the violence resulted in the deaths of seven people and left several others injured. One person remains missing, while significant material damage was reported at the scene.
Immediately following the clashes, a judicial investigation was opened on the orders of the Abobo Public Prosecutor’s Office to identify and apprehend the perpetrators of the violence.
The investigation conducted by law enforcement quickly led to the arrest of 18 individuals.
Brought before the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the suspects are now the subject of a judicial inquiry.
The charges against them are particularly serious: murder, disturbing the peace, criminal conspiracy, assault and battery, robbery committed at night and in a group, intentional damage to property, and arson.
They are also charged with the illegal possession of Category 5 and 6 firearms. These offenses are defined and punishable under a dozen articles of the Ivorian penal code.
All of the accused have been remanded in custody pending their trial.
