Djibouti’s ports authority announced that it will not receive any additional cargo surcharges linked to the Gulf crisis, confirming that shipments loaded before the crisis will not face retroactive fees.
In a notice issued over the weekend, the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority said cargo loaded prior to the onset of the Gulf crisis must not be subject to any extra surcharge.
It directed agents operating at the Port of Djibouti, including those representing ship-owners or principal carriers, to refrain from imposing or collecting crisis-related fees from cargo owners, consignees or other port users.
The authority said the measure aims to ensure fair treatment for both cargo owners and ship-owners, and to prevent the retroactive application of surcharges to shipments arranged before the crisis began.
It warned that any shipping agent found violating the directive will face administrative and regulatory action under applicable port regulations, and called for full compliance across all licensed operators.
The notice was signed by Aboubaker Omar Hadi, chairman of the authority.
