Senior Egyptian and Turkish diplomats have advanced preparations for an international conference on Gaza’s reconstruction following President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s announcement in Sharm El-Sheikh that the summit will be held in November.
Although a specific date has yet to be confirmed, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan discussed preparations for the Gaza reconstruction conference – set to take place in Cairo next month – during a phone call on 25 October.
Abdelatty expressed hope for Ankara’s active participation, emphasizing the consolidation of the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire agreement, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.
The Egyptian foreign minister expressed his hope for “Turkey’s active participation in this conference as well as its support for international efforts aimed at rebuilding the Gaza Strip and consolidating stability in the region,” the statement added.
According to local media, the two ministers also reviewed the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit and the agreement to end the war in Gaza under US President Donald Trump’s plan, stressing the importance of consolidating both the accord and the truce to support regional security and stability.
Abdelatty emphasised the importance of “the full implementation of the provisions of the Sharm Al-Sheikh Peace Agreement, ensuring a permanent ceasefire and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian, relief and medical aid to the Gaza Strip,” according to the statement.
During the telephone conversation, the ministers also discussed coordination on regional and international issues aimed at serving their common interests and strengthening security and stability, emphasising the importance of intensifying their political, economic and investment cooperation, as well as promoting bilateral dialogue.
