Ethiopians and Eritreans are among those who were wounded by a missile strike from Iran against the United Arab Emirates over the weekend.
UAE’s Ministry of Defense shared updates on its X page confirming the death of three people who are Pakistani, Nepali and Bangladeshi nationals and the injury of fifty-eight others in two days of Iranian missile attack on UAE. Based on the report, the injuries are not life-threatening.
It said since the beginning of the Iranian attack on 28th February, 165 ballistic missiles launched from Iran towards the UAE have been detected. Of these, 152 were destroyed, while 13 fell into the sea.
Two cruise missiles were also detected and destroyed.
The ministry said, “a total of 541 Iranian drones were detected, of which 506 were intercepted and destroyed, while 35 fell within the country, causing material damage”.
The incidents resulted in three fatalities of Pakistani, Nepali and Bangladeshi nationalities, and 58 minor injuries among Emirati, Egyptian, Ethiopian, Filipino, Pakistani, Iranian, Indian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Azerbaijani, Yemeni, Ugandan, Eritrean, Lebanese and Afghan nationals.”
Israel and the United States launched a joint bombing campaign against Iran in the early hours of Saturday targeting key military and political figures. Iran’s spiritual and political leader, Ali Khamenei was among those killed in the attack.
Iran responded with missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and several United States military bases in the region including the United Arab Emirates.
