The European Union (EU) has praised the resilience of the Libyan people and reiterated its continued support for the country’s peace and nation-building efforts.
In a message posted on the official page of its delegation to Libya on Thursday on the occasion of the 14th anniversary of Libya’s Liberation Day, the European Union reaffirmed its commitment to stand by the Libyan people, emphasizing its “continued support on the path toward peace, unity, and prosperity for all citizens.”
“Today, Libya celebrates its Liberation Day, which is a moment to honour the resilience, courage, and aspirations of the Libyan people,” the EU delegation stated, paying tribute to those who have worked for more than a decade to stabilize the country.
Observed annually on October 23, Liberation Day marks the end of the 2011 conflict and symbolizes the Libyan people’s struggle for freedom and sovereignty.
The commemoration also honours the sacrifices made in the effort to build a unified, stable, and democratic state, despite ongoing political and institutional divisions.
The EU, has through the statement, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Libyan-led efforts toward a lasting resolution of the conflict.
The EU also reiterated its backing for initiatives promoting political dialogue, national reconciliation, and the restoration of legitimate state institutions under the auspices of the United Nations.
This stance is consistent with the broader EU–Libya partnership, which focuses on economic stabilization, border management, security cooperation, and humanitarian assistance for vulnerable populations.
The EU has through this declaration emphasised that Libya’s stability remains a regional priority and a key factor for peace and prosperity across the Mediterranean basin.
