Efforts to expand European travel to East Africa gained new momentum following high-level diplomatic talks in Brussels, where the East African country’s Ambassador Eshete Tilahun met with Eric Drésin, Secretary General of the European Travel Agents’ and Tour Operators’ Associations (ECTAA).
The meeting focused on establishing cooperative framework agreements to showcase Ethiopia’s cultural, historical, and natural travel destinations across major European markets.
During the engagement, Ambassador Eshete outlined the country’s main tourism draws, emphasizing its globally recognized status as the birthplace of humanity, its collection of UNESCO World Heritage sites, diverse landscapes, and strong air transit connections.
To turn these assets into increased visitor numbers, ECTAA representatives proposed integrating Ethiopia into the organization’s Destination Partners and Preferred Destinations programs, which enhance marketing exposure for participating countries. Both parties agreed to maintain active working relations and facilitate ongoing networking opportunities between travel industry stakeholders in Belgium and the broader European region.
