The death has been announced on Wednesday of Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga at the age of 80.
Family sources said Odinga died at the Devamatha Hospital in India where he was receiving medical attention after collapsing while taking a walk.
He died of cardiac arrest after failing to respond to efforts to resuscitate him.
Although his family had denied reports of Raila being seriously sick, speculations have been rife about his failing health n recent months.
Raila Odinga unsuccessfully for presiden five times and eventually became the country’s prime minister.
President william Ruto, an ally of Mr Odinga who campaigned spiritedly for him in his failed bid to become the African Union Commission Chairperson will address the nation later on Wednesday to pay tribute to the late politician.
Meanwhile tributes from other personalities have been pouring in including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, who said Odinga was true statesman who whose genuine friendship with his country will be cherished forever.
