The Chadian government and the French Development Agency have signed a €15 million financing agreement as part of budget support for the 2023 fiscal year.
The agreement, concluded with the AFD, marks a further step in cooperation between Chad and its technical and financial partners aimed at strengthening the national economy.
The convention was signed by Chadian Minister of State and Minister of Finance, Budget, Economy, Planning and International Cooperation, Tahir Hamid Nguilin.
It was also endorsed by French ambassador to Chad Éric Gérard and Philippe Chédanne, Director of AFD in N’Djamena.
The grant is intended to support the government’s efforts toward macroeconomic and fiscal consolidation through the financing of eligible expenditures linked to major structural projects. Two priority areas have been identified.
The first concerns the modernisation of strategic transport infrastructure, notably the rehabilitation of the runway at Hassan Djamous International Airport in N’Djamena, a key facility for mobility, aviation safety and economic exchanges.
The second focus area targets the cotton sector — a cornerstone of the national economy and a vital source of income for rural populations — through support to the Cotton Sector Support Fund (FSSC).
Through this agreement, both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing structural reforms aimed at improving public finance performance, ensuring the continuity of essential services and promoting Chad’s economic development.
