Over the weekend, the Gabonese president made a temporary reshuffle of the government following the resignation of several ministers recently elected as members of parliament.
This was announced by the Permanent Secretary of the Presidency, Murielle Minkoue.
The decision comes amid preparations for the new National Assembly and the renewal of institutions.
In recent months, the executive branch had made several consultations aimed at adjusting government action in preparation for the establishment of a new team tasked with accelerating transition reforms.
The ministers in question submitted their resignations to comply with the rules prohibiting the holding of a parliamentary mandate concurrently with government positions.
Elected for the next legislature, they must now devote themselves fully to their responsibilities as members of parliament, in accordance with the constitution and the principles of separation of powers in force in Gabon.
To ensure the continuity of public service, President Oligui Nguma has allocated interim positions among the remaining members of the government.
Minister of State Henri-Claude Oyima will assume several portfolios, including one attached to the Vice-President.
François Ndong Obiang (Reform and Relations with Institutions), Hermann Immongault (Interior), Paul-Marie Gondjout (Communication and Media), Louise Mvono (Planning), and Nadine Nathalie Awanang (Social Affairs) are also among the appointees to manage the day-to-day affairs of the eighteen ministries concerned.
According to the Presidency, this transitional measure aims to preserve the stability of the state while awaiting the completion of consultations necessary for the formation of a new government.
In recent weeks, the authorities have intensified several priority projects, including streamlining the administration, restructuring public finances, and strengthening governance mechanisms during the
transition.
These are all actions that will need to be continued and expanded by the future team manning the government.
