The Gambian Drug Legislative Authority (DLEAG) has announced the arrest of 22 people suspected of drug possession, trafficking, and use during operations conducted across the country from June 1 to 7.
Among the suspected are 18 Gambians, three Senegalese, and one Guinean.
The group consists of 21 men and one woman, who are currently in custody as part of ongoing investigations.
The arrests took place in several regions of the country, including the West Coast, Kanifing, Banjul, North Bank, and Central River.
Officers seized various illicit substances, including cannabis, hashish, skunk, kush, and ecstasy tablets. One of the major operations was conducted on June 3 in Sukuta, where two people were arrested with 94 packets of skunk.
At the Barra ferry terminal, two Senegalese nationals were also arrested on June 6 in possession of kush and 89 ecstasy tablets hidden in an unregistered motorcycle.
The DLEAG (Directorate of Legislation and Anti-Global Affairs) indicates that all those arrested remain in custody while the investigation continues.
