The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Living Abroad has announced the holding of the 4th session of the Senegal-Gambia Presidential Council (RCS), scheduled for June 9-12, 2026, in Dakar, Republic of Senegal.
As the supreme body for bilateral cooperation between the Republic of The Gambia and the Republic of Senegal, the Presidential Council provides a key strategic framework for strengthening relations between the two sister nations. Established to consolidate historical ties of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation, it offers a vital platform for dialogue on issues of common interest and for promoting regional integration, peace, security, and development in priority sectors such as trade, transportation, energy, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
According to the official program, the 4th session of the Presidential Council will open with a meeting of senior officials, which will then be followed by a ministerial session. The comprehensive work will conclude on June 12, 2026, with the high-profile meeting of the Presidential Council itself, bringing together the Heads of State of both The Gambia and Senegal. This top-level meeting will allow the respective leaderships to thoroughly assess the current state of bilateral cooperation and establish new strategic directions in key areas of the partnership.
The Gambian government has strongly reaffirmed the importance it attaches to this mechanism for dialogue and cooperation, which has successfully transformed over the years into an essential tool for strengthening bilateral relations and addressing mutual challenges. This upcoming session follows the 3rd meeting of the Presidential Council, which was successfully held in Banjul from July 30 to August 1, 2023. On that occasion, The Gambia and Senegal renewed their long-standing commitment to deepening their cooperation and consolidating the historical ties that bind them. As this new session approaches in Dakar, Gambian authorities have expressed their full confidence in the success of the proceedings and reaffirmed their willingness to continue close collaboration with Senegal to advance the common aspirations of both peoples.
