Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called on all parties to honour their commitments under the Gaza ceasefire during a meeting on Sunday, August 16, in Al-Alamein with U.S. envoy Jared Kushner.
The meeting was focusing on regional crises and the implementation of the U.S. peace plan.
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received Jared Kushner in Al-Alamein on Sunday for talks focused on the situation in the Middle East and the enforcement of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency. The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and the Head of the General Intelligence Service, Hassan Rashad.
During the talks, the Egyptian head of state underscored “the necessity for all actors to respect their commitments under the Gaza ceasefire agreement,” which was concluded at the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit in October 2025. He also called for continued efforts to address shared challenges and resolve the various crises weakening the region, in order to safeguard regional security and stability.
The meeting underscores Egypt’s central role in diplomatic efforts surrounding Gaza. Cairo maintains open communication channels with all parties involved and works in coordination with Washington on implementing the process.
In this context, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi reaffirmed the significance of strategic relations between Egypt and the United States, expressing satisfaction with the level of bilateral cooperation.
For his part, Jared Kushner praised the close coordination between Washington and Cairo, as well as the efforts undertaken by Egyptian authorities—and el-Sisi personally—on key regional files. The U.S. envoy conveyed greetings from Donald Trump to the Egyptian president, emphasising that “Egypt serves as a central partner for the United States in the Middle East.”
The discussion comes amidst a period of heightened diplomatic activity in Cairo. Earlier on Sunday, Hassan Rashad met with a Hamas delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya, head of the movement’s political bureau, to review the implementation of the U.S. plan regarding Gaza.
Following his visit to Egypt, Jared Kushner is set to continue consultations in Israel to try to push the roadmap forward.
According to reporting by Ahram Online, the roadmap was accepted by Hamas but rejected by Israel, leaving significant differences over its implementation and placing Egyptian-American mediation at the heart of efforts to preserve the ceasefire.
