Ivanhoe Mines president and chief financial officer (CFO) Marna Cloete is set to headline African Mining Week (AMW) 2025’s Women in Leadership Forum where she will address contributions by women in the mining sector alongside her company’s ambitious expansion efforts across Africa.
Cloete is set to spotlight the role of women in driving sustainability, innovation and inclusive growth within the mining sector.
The event, running from 1-3 October in Cape Town, serves as a key platform for advancing gender diversity and discussing Africa’s evolving mining landscape.
In addition to her focus on gender leadership, Cloete will join a high-profile panel discussion on mergers, acquisitions and partnerships, exploring strategies to enhance supply chain resilience amid industry consolidation.
Under her financial stewardship, Ivanhoe Mines has secured major investments and forged strategic partnerships, including deals with Zijin Mining, CITIC Metal and Itochu.
The company raised $490 million through equity in late 2023 and secured a $750 million debt package in early 2024 to fund its African expansion.
Ivanhoe Mines has advanced several flagship projects across the continent, including the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex — the world’s highest-grade copper project — in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The company has also revitalised the Kipushi Mine in the DRC, expanded into Zambia’s copper-rich North-Western Province and is developing the Flatreef platinum group metals project in South Africa.
With a $75 million exploration budget for 2025, Ivanhoe Mines continues to deepen its presence in Africa’s mining sector, reinforcing its commitment to unlocking the continent’s mineral wealth.
AMW 2025 will, therefore, provide Cloete with a platform to highlight Ivanhoe’s investment strategy and its contributions to African economic growth and industrialisation.
The event, held alongside African Energy Week, is expected to attract leading policymakers, investors and industry stakeholders focused on shaping the future of mining in Africa.
