A former deputy president in Kenya is accusing the government of a failed bid to assssinate him during a church service on Sunday.
Rigathi Gachagua now in the opposition after falling out with President Willim Ruto alleged that his former boss had hatched a plot to kill him as he worshipped at a church in central Nyeri county as armed men pelted the service with bullets.
There were no casualties, according to reports.
He has provided no evidence to back his allegation.
Gachagua was removed as deputy president in 2024 following an impeachment hearing.
Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen has condemned the attack but did not respond to Gachagua’s allegation as police begin their investigation.
