Liberian President Joseph Boakai has dismissed the three highest-ranking officials of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in response to what his office called a “scourge of illicit drugs and substances” plaguing the country.
In an official press release, President Boakai’s office confirmed the immediate dismissal of the LDEA’s Director General, Anthony K. Souh, the Deputy Director General for Administration, Gwee K. Porkpah, and the Deputy Director General for Operations, Sebastian Farr.
The action signals President Boakai’s resolve to address the country’s drug problem, which has become a major social and security concern. The LDEA is the primary government body responsible for combating drug trafficking and abuse in Liberia.
To ensure the agency continues to function without interruption, President Boakai has appointed an interim management team. This new team will be responsible for steering the affairs of the LDEA while the government prepares to take further actions to reform the agency and its operations.
The dismissal of the three officials is the most decisive step yet by the new administration to combat the drug crisis, sending a clear message about its zero-tolerance policy for drug-related issues and its commitment to tackling a problem that many Liberians see as a national emergency.
