The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs received the Algerian chargé d’affaires to review bilateral issues and explore
sectoral cooperation.
The meeting between the Libyan Director of Arab Affairs and the Algerian representative covered traditional but critical topics: human mobility, trade facilitation, border security coordination, and energy cooperation.
Both parties emphasised the logic of neighbourliness as a vector of pragmatism: relieving congestion at border crossings, establishing regular consultation mechanisms, and building projects where interests converge (energy, logistics, training).
The diplomatic exercise aims to frame a relationship characterised by opportunities but also by rivalries over positioning. Algeria, a major security player in the Sahel, and Libya, an energy and logistics hub, have an interest in increased predictability.
The sustainability of commitments will depend on joint bodies capable of monitoring implementation and defusing emerging disputes.
